England cricketers Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid have expressed support for the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to impose a two-year ban on their compatriot, Harry Brook, following his abrupt withdrawal from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Brook, who was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for ₹6.5 crore during the IPL 2025 auction, cited a need to prioritize national commitments as his reason for pulling out. This marks the second consecutive year Brook has withdrawn from the IPL after being signed, having previously stepped back in 2024 following a ₹4 crore acquisition by the same franchise.

The BCCI's newly implemented rule, established prior to the IPL 2025 auction, aims to address and deter last-minute withdrawals by players. Under this regulation, Brook's decision resulted in a two-year ban from participating in the league. Moeen Ali, speaking on the "Beard Before Cricket" podcast, acknowledged the challenges such withdrawals pose to team dynamics and planning. He noted that while the ban might seem severe, it addresses a recurring issue where players withdraw, potentially seeking better financial packages later, thereby disrupting team strategies. Ali emphasized that unless the withdrawal is due to injury or family reasons, it significantly impacts the team's composition and preparations.

Adil Rashid echoed Ali's sentiments, highlighting that the rule was clearly communicated before the auction, and players were aware of the consequences of late withdrawals. He pointed out that such regulations are designed to maintain the integrity of team planning and ensure that franchises are not left in challenging positions due to unexpected player absences. Rashid also mentioned that this pattern of last-minute pullouts has been an ongoing concern over the past five to ten years, and the BCCI's stance aims to curb this trend.
