Amit Shah Highlights ₹2.5 Lakh Crore Investment to Boost Job Opportunities for Northeast Youth

Northeast to Witness Unprecedented Development with ₹2.5 Lakh Crore Investment: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced a transformative ₹2.5 lakh crore investment for the Northeast, ensuring significant employment opportunities within the region. Speaking at the NorthEast Students and Youth Parliament, organized by Student Experience in Inter-State Living (SEIL), Shah assured that within the next decade, youth from the Northeast would find jobs locally without needing to migrate. This investment forms part of a broader strategy to enhance economic growth, infrastructure development, and peace in a region historically challenged by insurgency and underdevelopment.

Budget Growth and Infrastructure Expansion

The region's budget has surged by 153% in 2024-25 compared to 2014-15. Shah emphasized improved connectivity, announcing plans to connect all state capitals in the Northeast via rail, air, and road by 2027. Investments include ₹90,000 crore for roads, ₹18,000 crore for railway projects, and the construction of India’s largest Rail-cum-Road bridge over the Brahmaputra. A railway line linking Assam to Bhutan and the Vibrant Villages Programme in Arunachal Pradesh are also underway.

Decline in Violence and Peace Initiatives

Shah highlighted a remarkable 70% reduction in violent incidents over the past decade, with civilian deaths dropping by 89% and security force casualties by 70%. Peace agreements with various insurgent groups have led to the surrender of over 10,500 militants, fostering stability in the region.

Economic Growth and Job Creation

Economic initiatives include a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor plant in Assam, promising numerous job opportunities. Organic farming in Sikkim, bolstered by government policies, has set a precedent for sustainable agriculture. Shah reaffirmed the commitment to keeping Northeast youth employed locally as India advances toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Fostering Unity and National Growth

Praising SEIL’s efforts to strengthen cultural ties between the Northeast and the rest of India, Shah called the NorthEast Students and Youth Parliament a vital platform for fostering unity. With massive investments, enhanced connectivity, and sustained peace, the Northeast is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s strategic and economic development.
