India's Quick-Commerce (Q-Commerce) sector is undergoing rapid growth, with projections indicating it will provide over 5-5.5 lakh jobs by next year, according to a report by TeamLease Services. Currently employing 2.5-3 lakh delivery partners and 70,000-75,000 under-the-roof workers, including those in dark stores and warehouses, the sector is poised for significant expansion.
Q-Commerce, known for
ultra-fast deliveries within 10-15 minutes, is expected to achieve a market
size of USD 5 billion by 2025, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR)
of 10-15%. The rise in last-mile delivery, dark store operations, and warehouse
roles is fueled by increasing product categories, expanding urban markets, and
growing delivery volumes. Workforce demand in both delivery and under-the-roof
roles is projected to rise by 50%, driving total employment in the sector to
over 5 lakh jobs within a year.
TeamLease Services Senior VP
Balasubramanian A emphasized the need for workforce skilling, structured
retention strategies, and AI-driven management to counter high attrition rates
and support sustainable growth.
The report also highlighted regional employment trends, with Karnataka (20%), Maharashtra (19%), and Telangana (13%) leading in job creation, followed by Haryana and West Bengal at 4% each. Most roles in the sector are entry-level, with 71% of employees holding 10th or 12th-grade qualifications, reflecting a focus on digital literacy and last-mile delivery skills.
Despite its growth, the industry faces challenges with high attrition, driven by intense competition and frequent job-switching. Companies are responding by investing in training, upskilling programs, and retention initiatives to enhance efficiency and workforce stability.
