Hyderabad's Decade-Long Drug Trafficking Saga Unveiled

In a significant development, the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has successfully apprehended and deported a Nigerian national, Onuorah Solomon Chibueze, who had been residing illegally in the city for almost a decade, allegedly running a drug trafficking operation. This operation highlights the growing concern of foreign nationals overstaying their visas and engaging in illicit activities, as emphasized by the H-NEW.

Chibueze, a 46-year-old from Anambra State, Nigeria, entered India on a medical visa in August 2014, which expired the following month. Instead of returning home, he embarked on a journey that took him from Delhi to Bangalore and finally to Hyderabad in September 2024. He settled in the Attapur area, where he allegedly established a drug supply chain, sourcing marijuana from Pune and Mumbai and distributing it within Hyderabad. This operation went unnoticed for years, with Chibueze living under the radar until his passport expired in January 2016.

The authorities caught up with him in the Tolichowki area, where his suspicious behavior drew attention. During interrogation, Chibueze admitted to overstaying his visa, and the absence of valid travel documents left him with no choice but to cooperate. The H-NEW swiftly initiated deportation, collaborating with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad and the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi to secure the necessary travel documents.

The successful deportation of Chibueze serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by foreign nationals overstaying their visas and engaging in criminal activities. H-NEW's vigilance and swift action in this case demonstrate their commitment to maintaining public order and national security. As the agency continues its efforts, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, playing a crucial role in safeguarding the city's well-being.
