Fox Lake Traffic Stop Unveils a Drug Cache

In a routine traffic stop that turned into a significant drug bust, a 44-year-old man was arrested with a substantial amount of narcotics. The incident, which occurred on September 30 in Fox Lake, began when a police officer pulled over a white Honda Accord driven by Shane C. Perry for disregarding a stop sign. Little did the officer know, this stop would lead to a substantial drug seizure.

The Fox Lake Police Department's Sgt. Rick Howell recounted that the officer's senses were alerted by the strong odor of fresh cannabis emanating from the vehicle. A closer look revealed loose cannabis in plain sight. This prompted the officers to call for backup, and the Round Lake Park Police Department's Canine Gunny was brought to the scene. The subsequent search of Perry and his vehicle uncovered a hidden stash of illegal substances.

The search revealed four plastic baggies containing narcotics on Perry's person, holding approximately 16 grams of methamphetamine and 18 grams of cocaine. The car search also yielded an additional 18 grams of cannabis in a plastic baggie, a plastic bottle of THC syrup, and a digital scale, indicating potential drug distribution activities. This discovery led to a series of charges against Perry, including manufacturing or delivery of cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of controlled substances, and various traffic violations.

The Lake County States Attorneys Office has approved the charges and filed a petition for detention, which was granted. With the preliminary hearing set for October 22, the public awaits further updates on this case, which highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement in combating drug-related crimes.
