In a significant operation, Goa's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has made the largest drug seizure of the year, arresting a Nigerian citizen and confiscating a substantial amount of illegal substances. The raid, conducted late Wednesday night, resulted in the recovery of drugs valued at a staggering Rs 2.53 crore.
The accused, Chigozie Innocent Nzedigwe, aged 24, was previously arrested for a similar offence in October 2024 and had been out on bail. However, the ANC, demonstrating their vigilance, kept a close watch on Nzedigwe's activities through technical surveillance and human intelligence. This led to the raid on his rented premises in North Goa, where the drugs were discovered. The haul included 1.16 kilograms of high-grade cocaine, estimated to be worth Rs 2.32 crores in the international market, and 106.2 grams of Ecstasy powder valued at Rs 21.24 lakhs. The ANC also seized a two-wheeler scooter used by the accused to distribute these drugs.
This operation highlights the ANC's commitment to combating the drug trade in Goa. The success of this raid can be attributed to the team's dedication and the effective use of surveillance techniques. The ANC's spokesperson emphasized the significance of this seizure, stating that it is a significant blow to the drug network in the region.
With Nzedigwe now in police custody for seven days, as ordered by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa, the authorities will continue their investigations to uncover any larger drug trafficking operations and bring those involved to justice. This recent bust is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of Goa's residents and tourists alike.
