Udupi Police Burn Over Rs 15 Lakh in Drugs

The streets of Udupi have become a little safer as the district police force took a stand against narcotics, destroying a substantial haul of illegal substances worth over Rs 15 lakh. This bold move sends a clear message to drug peddlers and users alike.

On Thursday, under the watchful eye of SP Hariram Shankar and the District Drug Disposal Committee, a significant quantity of drugs went up in smoke at Ayush Envirotech Pvt Ltd in Padubidri. The stash, valued at Rs 15.2 lakh, comprised 9.9 kg of ganja, 345.5 g of MDMA, and 61.4 g of white powder, now reduced to ashes. This action is part of a broader strategy to tackle drug-related crimes in the region.

The drugs were seized across 10 different cases, spanning from 2021 to 2025, in various police stations throughout Udupi district. Notably, the 2021 Padubidri case resulted in a conviction and an Rs 8,000 fine for the accused, Abdul Rahiman. The police's recent focus on ganja-related crimes has led to 35 cases being registered in just 15 days, with strict action being taken against all accused.

SP Hariram Shankar's commitment to eradicating the drug menace is evident: "We will continue to take strict and continuous action against ganja consumption and trafficking to ensure the safety and well-being of our community." This proactive approach by the Udupi police not only demonstrates their dedication to upholding the law but also serves as a powerful deterrent to potential criminals, sending a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated.
