In a significant drug enforcement operation, Hyderabad's Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has struck a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, seizing a staggering 220 kilograms of ephedrine worth 72 crore. This clandestine operation, masterminded by a former chemist with a history of drug offences, was brought to light on October 9, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the exposure of a sophisticated drug manufacturing setup.

The EAGLE team, acting on credible information, raided a flat in the Springfield Colony, uncovering a well-organized scheme. The main accused, Vastavayi Shiva Ramakrishna Parama Varma, a 52-year-old from Kakinada, had allegedly approached Dangeti Anil, a production manager at PNM Life Sciences, with a proposal to manufacture ephedrine. Varma's past includes arrests by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Bengaluru and Hyderabad in 2017 and 2019, making him a known entity in the illegal drug circuit.

The operation involved the use of PNM Life Sciences' facilities, with company directors Maddu Venkata Krishna Rao and M. Prasad complicit in the plan. Varma supplied raw materials and funds, while Anil oversaw the production, resulting in a substantial yield of high-quality ephedrine. The drug was stored at Varma's residence, indicating a well-planned distribution strategy.

Director of EAGLE, Sandeep Shandilya, emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, "The misuse of industrial units for drug production is a grave threat to public health and security." This bust highlights the growing sophistication of drug operations and the need for heightened vigilance. With one accused still at large, the investigation continues, leaving the public awaiting further developments in this significant drug enforcement case.
