Cyber Fraud Unveiled: 2 More Arrests in Hyderabad

In a swift operation, the Cyberabad cybercrime police have brought two more individuals to justice in the recent 2.7 crore rupee impersonation scam. This development marks a significant step in unraveling the intricate web of deception that targeted high-ranking corporate officials. The incident, which occurred in the first week of June 2025, highlights the evolving sophistication of cybercriminals and the urgent need for enhanced security measures.

The fraudsters' modus operandi was cunning. They impersonated the managing director of Greenko Group, a prominent energy company, on WhatsApp, a widely used communication platform. Posing as the MD, they coerced the company's chief financial officer into making two substantial transactions, amounting to Rs 1.95 crore and Rs 75 lakh, to an account linked to ONITSUKA Developers. This audacious act of deception was only brought to light when the transaction details were forwarded to the actual managing director's office, triggering an immediate investigation.

The recent arrests of Sandeep Roop and Avinash Kumar in Bengaluru bring the total number of apprehended suspects to four. This breakthrough is a testament to the dedication of the Cyberabad cybercrime sleuths, who have been tirelessly working to combat the rising tide of cyber fraud. The police have urged organizations to exercise caution and implement stringent verification processes for financial transactions, emphasizing the importance of direct voice or video calls to confirm payment requests.

As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits further revelations about this sophisticated scam. The case serves as a stark reminder of the constant threat of cybercrime and the importance of proactive security measures in the digital age. With the growing complexity of online fraud, the authorities' swift action provides a sense of security and underscores their commitment to safeguarding the financial integrity of businesses and individuals alike.
