The bustling city of Nellore is about to witness a significant transformation with the inauguration of its Smart Street Bazar (SSB), a visionary project led by Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana. This ambitious initiative, set to be unveiled by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, promises to be a game-changer for the local economy, particularly for women entrepreneurs.
The SSB, strategically located at Mypadugate Center, is a cutting-edge marketplace designed to accommodate 200 shops, each equipped with modern facilities. The project is a joint effort between the Municipal Administration and the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), with a substantial investment of Rs 8 crores. The government's commitment to this project is evident, having already spent Rs 6 crores on infrastructure, including solar panels to ensure uninterrupted power supply, a crucial feature in a region prone to power outages.
The SSB's primary objective is to empower women by providing them with economic opportunities. 120 shops will be allocated to Self-Help Group (SHG) women, enabling them to run various businesses. These women, previously facing challenges due to heavy traffic and inadequate facilities, will now have a dedicated space to thrive. The government is also offering substantial support, including bank loans of Rs 2 lakhs and additional funds for shop setup and working capital. The shops will cater to diverse needs, ranging from food courts and provision stores to laundry and tailoring services.
Minister P Narayana's vision extends beyond the SSB, as he plans to construct a rivetment along the Jaffer Sahen Canal to enhance the area's aesthetics and functionality. With the successful implementation of this project, Nellore sets an example for other municipalities, as the government aims to replicate this model across five more cities, fostering economic growth and women's empowerment on a larger scale.
