In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, Telangana's Eagle Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has disrupted a nationwide hawala operation, seizing a staggering Rs 3 crore and arresting 25 individuals. This operation, unfolding in the bustling city of Mumbai, targeted the financial backbone of drug cartels, exposing a complex web of illegal transactions.
The anti-drugs task force's recent success began with the capture of Dargaram Rataji Prajapati, a key figure in the hawala network. Prajapati, who had previously evaded authorities during a raid on Bharat Kumar Chaganlal and Company in Mumbai, was found to be a crucial link in the chain of money laundering for Nigerian drug cartels. The investigation revealed that the company served as a front, facilitating the movement of drug funds through hawala channels for international syndicates.
The operation gained momentum with the arrest of a foreign national, Onyeisi Esomchi Kenneth, who operated under various aliases and multiple passports. This led to a series of arrests and the dismantling of the hawala drug network. The agents involved, including Uttam Singh, Kheema Ram, and Chetan Mavji, were responsible for collecting illicit funds from Nigerian nationals involved in the drug trade.
In a related development, the Rachakonda police have also made headway in their battle against drug peddling, apprehending an interstate drug trafficker and seizing opium and poppy straw worth Rs 1 crore. This coordinated effort highlights the multi-pronged approach of Telangana's law enforcement agencies in tackling the drug menace. With these successful operations, the state sends a clear message of its commitment to disrupting drug trafficking and its associated financial networks.
