Hyderabad's Road Revival: Filling the Cracks for a Safer City

The monsoon season in Hyderabad often leaves its mark on the city's roads, creating a trail of potholes and cracks that can wreak havoc on commuters. But this year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is on a mission to swiftly erase these traces, ensuring a smoother and safer journey for all.

With the monsoon showers now a fading memory, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has set an ambitious goal: to repair every pothole in the city within a week. This intensive road safety drive has already made significant progress, with a remarkable 14,112 potholes filled out of the 16,541 identified as of October 10. The GHMC's maintenance teams are working tirelessly, day and night, to restore the roads to their safe and smooth state.

The LB Nagar Zone leads the way with an impressive 2,743 potholes repaired, followed closely by Charminar (2,235), Khairtabad (1,987), Serilingampally (1,576), Kukatpally (2,308), and Secunderabad (3,263). Beyond pothole repairs, the GHMC's efforts extend to catch-pit restorations, patchwork, cover replacements, and central median repairs, with 771 catch-pits, 367 cover replacements, and 18 central median repairs already completed.

"As the rains subside, we are intensifying our efforts to ensure road restoration works are completed swiftly, minimizing any public inconvenience," said Commissioner Karnan. This commitment to road safety is not just about convenience; it's a matter of public safety and traffic management. By addressing these issues promptly, the GHMC is taking proactive steps to prevent potential accidents and traffic congestion, making Hyderabad's roads safer and more efficient for all its residents.
