India Aims to Double Startups and Generate 5 Crore Jobs by 2030: Minister

India's startup ecosystem is poised for significant growth, with the number of startups expected to double from 1.2 lakh to 2.4 lakh by 2030, creating 50 million jobs, according to Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Speaking at the 3rd Annual Technical Festival 'EPITOME 2025' of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, via video conference, Chaudhary noted that these jobs would span white-collar roles, gig economy opportunities, and indirect industry employment.

To support this expansion, the government has launched a ₹60,000 crore initiative to modernize Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), equipping young professionals with industry-specific skills. Chaudhary highlighted the importance of relevant skill sets in a knowledge-driven economy, emphasizing their role in personal success and national progress.

He called for a collaborative approach among industry, academia, and government to bridge India’s skill gap, particularly in technical sectors like railways, aviation, and logistics. He stressed the importance of apprenticeship-based education and industry-aligned training to boost productivity and reduce inefficiencies.

Chaudhary also highlighted the critical role of logistics efficiency in economic growth, noting that advancements in transportation and the adoption of AI-driven predictive maintenance are pivotal to a green and digital future. He underscored the transformative impact of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which is unlocking opportunities in multimodal logistics, aviation, and maritime sectors, thereby creating global career pathways for Indian youth.

The Minister commended Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya for its industry-focused curriculum and encouraged partnerships with National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) to enhance reskilling and upskilling initiatives. With a strong focus on skill development and entrepreneurship, India is positioned to emerge as a global hub for innovation and employment in the coming decade.
