In a significant move to enhance tourism security, Telangana has introduced its first-ever tourist police force, comprising 80 officers ready to safeguard and guide travelers. This specialized unit, launched on World Tourism Day, marks a strategic step towards achieving the goals outlined in the Telangana Tourism Police Policy 2025-30. The policy envisions a safer and more welcoming environment for visitors, aiming to boost the state's tourism sector.
The newly formed team underwent rigorous training at the Police Academy and received specialized orientation at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) to ensure they are well-equipped to handle the unique challenges of tourist destinations. These officers will be stationed at various iconic sites, including the historic Charminar and the majestic Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, as well as the serene Ananthagiri Hills and the sacred Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. The deployment covers seven districts, each boasting unique attractions, from the ancient Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the vibrant Pochampally, known for its traditional weaving.
"The personnel have undergone extensive training to ensure they are adept at handling tourist-related issues," said Valluru Kranthi, Director of the Department of Tourism. This initiative is further bolstered by enhanced CCTV surveillance, ensuring a swift response to any emergencies. The state's commitment to tourism safety is evident in its comprehensive approach, which includes the creation of women-friendly safety measures and the development of a Tourism Friendly Index to objectively assess and improve safety standards.
With this proactive step, Telangana is setting a precedent for other states, emphasizing the importance of specialized security measures to foster a thriving tourism industry. The initiative promises to enhance the overall visitor experience, making Telangana a more attractive and secure destination on India's tourism map.
