Hyderabad Hostel Raided: Gambling Bust Nets 7 Arrests

In a dramatic late-night operation, Hyderabad's Kukatpally Police have dealt a significant blow to illegal gambling activities, arresting seven individuals and seizing a substantial amount of cash and potential evidence. The raid, which took place at the Laxmi Hostel, has shed light on the hidden world of underground gambling and the potential involvement of a larger criminal network.

The operation, led by Detective Inspector M Kondala Rao, was a well-coordinated effort involving SI Ravinder Reddy and several police constables. The team stormed the penthouse of the hostel at 10 pm on Saturday, catching the suspects in the act of playing 'Teen Patti', a card game notorious for its association with gambling in the region. The suspects, comprising security staff and private employees, were seemingly oblivious to the impending raid until the police arrived.

The police confiscated a total of Rs 97,370 in cash, a significant sum that raises questions about the scale of the gambling operation. Additionally, seven mobile phones and 52 packs of playing cards were seized, indicating a well-equipped and potentially organized setup. The evidence suggests a systematic gambling operation, prompting the police to investigate further into the possibility of a larger network operating within the locality.

DCP K Suresh Kumar, Balanagar Division, emphasized the importance of continued vigilance, stating, "We will maintain strict surveillance in hostels and residential areas to eradicate illegal gaming and betting. Those involved in such activities will be brought to justice." This raid serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal gambling and the potential criminal networks that thrive in the shadows. The investigation is expected to reveal more insights into the extent of this illicit operation.
