Nellore's Housing Boom: Thousands of Homes, Many Still Unoccupied

In the bustling city of Nellore, a housing revolution is underway, with an impressive 17,520 homes constructed under the Tidco scheme within the municipal corporation's jurisdiction. This ambitious project aims to provide free housing to eligible families, offering a chance at a better life for many. Of these, 16,144 houses, each a spacious 300 square feet, are ready to become homes for those in need.

The municipal commissioner, Y.O. Nandan, has been proactive in urging eligible citizens to apply for these homes. At a recent public grievance meeting, he emphasized that the corporation is committed to allocating these houses to deserving applicants. The scheme also includes 352 houses of 365 square feet and 1,024 larger units of 430 square feet. With such a diverse range of options, the project caters to various family sizes and needs.

Despite the progress, a notable concern has emerged. While 13,559 Tidco houses have been registered, over 2,000 remain unoccupied, even after being approved. Commissioner Nandan has issued a stern warning, stating that non-occupancy will result in registration cancellation and reallocation to other eligible beneficiaries. This measure ensures that the homes reach those who truly need them and prevents any misuse of this generous initiative.

As the project continues, the commissioner's office encourages eligible citizens to complete their registrations promptly. With a significant number of houses still available, the corporation aims to ensure every deserving family has a roof over their heads. This initiative is a testament to the city's commitment to addressing housing needs, and the coming months will be crucial in realizing this ambitious vision.
