Nellore's Crackdown on Illegal Fireworks: A Safety Wake-Up Call

In the aftermath of a tragic blast at a fireworks unit in Savaram village, which took seven lives, the Nellore police are taking no chances. In a swift response to this devastating incident, the district's police force, under the leadership of SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla, has launched a comprehensive inspection drive, targeting illegal cracker manufacturing units and storage godowns.

The police have already registered cases in four locations: Indukurpet, Vidavalur, and Kandukur, where illegal cracker manufacturing and storage were uncovered. This proactive approach is a stark contrast to the often-lax attitude towards firework safety, especially as the festive season of Deepavali approaches.

With the festival of lights just around the corner, the police administration has issued a set of stringent guidelines to ensure public safety. These guidelines emphasize the importance of location, with cracker units and godowns to be set up in isolated areas, away from residential zones, schools, and hospitals. The regulations also focus on child labor, fire prevention equipment, and a centralized fire alarm system to ensure prompt response in case of emergencies.

SP Ajitha has issued a stern warning to those involved in the cracker industry, emphasizing the legal consequences of non-compliance with safety regulations. The police have also encouraged the public to play an active role in reporting illegal activities, ensuring anonymity to protect those who come forward with information. This collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community aims to prevent further tragedies and ensure a safer celebration of the upcoming festival.
