Nellore Cracker Blast Aftermath: Police Crack Down on Illegal Units

In the aftermath of a tragic blast at a cracker unit in Savaram village, which claimed seven lives, the Nellore police have launched a swift and comprehensive crackdown on illegal firework operations across the district. This decisive action, led by SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla, aims to prevent further disasters during the upcoming Deepavali festival.

The police conducted surprise inspections, targeting manufacturing units and storage godowns, resulting in the registration of four cases in Indukurpet, Vidavalur, and Kandukur. These locations were allegedly involved in the illegal production and storage of crackers, posing a significant threat to public safety. The inspections come as a necessary response to the recent blast, which has raised concerns about the district's firework manufacturing and storage practices.

To ensure a safer Deepavali, the police administration has issued a set of stringent guidelines. These include mandating that cracker units and godowns be located in isolated areas, at a safe distance from residential zones, schools, and hospitals. The guidelines also address child labor concerns, prohibiting individuals under 18 from working in these units. Furthermore, traders are required to maintain fire safety equipment, including cylinders and sand buckets, and install fire alarm systems connected to local fire departments.

In a stern warning, SP Ajitha emphasized the consequences of non-compliance, stating that legal action would be taken against those disregarding the administration's guidelines. She also encouraged the public to play an active role in reporting illegal activities, assuring anonymity to those who come forward with information. This proactive approach by the Nellore police not only addresses the immediate concerns but also underscores the importance of public awareness and cooperation in maintaining safety during festive seasons.
