The 42-year-old victim, lured by an enticing Instagram advertisement, unknowingly walked into a trap set by fraudulent tour operators, resulting in a staggering loss of Rs 94,256.

The victim's journey began with a simple click on the advertisement, which led to a series of WhatsApp messages and phone calls with the alleged tour company, 'Himalayan heli services'. The company promised a seamless Char Dham trip from October 12 to 17, including helicopter services and flights from Hyderabad to Dehradun and back, for a total of Rs 94,256. Eager to embark on this spiritual journey, the victim made the initial payment of Rs 30,000 on October 3, followed by Rs 64,256 the next day. The scam escalated when the victim was prompted to pay an additional Rs 28,000 on October 7 for travel insurance, which was supposedly refundable.

Just a day before the scheduled departure, the victim's excitement turned to suspicion when they were asked to pay Rs 24,000 more for helicopter boarding passes. Upon checking the flight PNR, the truth was revealed: the flights had been cancelled, exposing the entire operation as a well-orchestrated scam. This incident underscores the importance of vigilance in the digital age, where social media platforms can be breeding grounds for fraudulent activities.

The Hyderabad Police have urged citizens to exercise caution when dealing with travel offers on social media. They advise verifying travel companies' authenticity, confirming flight bookings directly with airlines, and avoiding unnecessary payments for additional services without proper documentation.
