Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) showcased an all-round performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in Match 7 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Nicholas Pooran's blistering knock of 70 off just 26 balls, along with Mitchell Marsh’s solid 52 off 31, ensured a comfortable chase of 191 in just 16.1 overs.
Shardul Thakur’s Bowling Masterclass
LSG won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that paid off as Shardul Thakur ran through SRH’s top order. He picked up four wickets for 34 runs, dismissing key players Abhishek Sharma (6) and Ishan Kishan (0) in consecutive deliveries. His spell ensured that SRH never truly accelerated beyond the 200-mark, as they were restricted to 190/9.
SRH’s Batting Struggles Despite Head’s Heroics
Despite early setbacks, Travis Head led SRH’s resistance with a quickfire 47 off 28 balls. He was dropped twice in the last over of the powerplay but couldn’t capitalize, falling to Prince Yadav. Aniket Verma’s explosive 36 off 13 and Pat Cummins’ 18 off 4 in the final overs gave SRH a fighting total, but it proved insufficient against LSG’s batting firepower.
Pooran and Marsh Dominate the Chase
LSG’s chase was off to a strong start with Marsh anchoring the innings. However, it was Nicholas Pooran who stole the show, smashing boundaries at will. His aggressive approach neutralized SRH’s bowling attack, and despite Pat Cummins dismissing both him and Marsh, Abdul Samad’s quick cameo (22 off 8) ensured LSG comfortably crossed the finish line.
With this victory, LSG bounced back after their previous defeat against Delhi Capitals, while SRH will look to regroup for their upcoming matches.
