Tackling Drug Abuse: Police Training in Jammu and Kashmir

In a significant step towards addressing the growing drug menace in the region, the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur has embarked on a three-day intensive training program for law enforcement officers. The course, titled "Increasing Menace of Narcotics among Youth: Challenges, Handling, and Investigation of NDPS Cases," aims to equip 21 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police with the skills to combat the rising drug abuse crisis effectively.

The inaugural session, graced by SSP Rajinder Kumar Gupta, highlighted the critical role of the police in tackling this societal issue. Gupta emphasized the alarming rate at which drug abuse is escalating among the youth, underscoring the need for immediate and effective action. He commended the Academy for taking the initiative to strengthen the force's capabilities in this crucial area. The training program will delve into various facets of narcotics control, including the intricacies of the NDPS Act, advanced investigation techniques, forensic science, and the art of gathering intelligence. The officers will also learn about inter-agency collaboration, a vital aspect of successful narcotics operations.

Led by Senior PO Chander Lekha and Head Constable Mohd Nasir, the course promises to be a comprehensive and practical guide for officers on the front lines of the war against drugs. This training initiative reflects a proactive approach to addressing a pressing social concern, ensuring that law enforcement is well-prepared to handle the challenges posed by the evolving landscape of drug abuse and trafficking. With enhanced skills and knowledge, these officers will be better equipped to protect the community and combat the scourge of narcotics.
