In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Hyderabad's dedicated unit has made sweeping arrests across India, targeting a range of online scams and frauds. With a total of 59 cybercriminals apprehended in September, the operation highlights the growing sophistication and reach of digital criminal activities.

The Cybercrime Police Station, in coordination with zonal cyber cells, has been swift in its response to the 320 complaints received via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. This proactive approach led to the filing of 222 FIRs at the central station and an additional 106 in various cyber cells across Hyderabad. The operation's reach extended to eight states, with suspects implicated in various fraudulent schemes, including investment scams, digital arrest threats, part-time job frauds, and even matrimonial deceptions.

The operation's success is evident in the recovery of substantial sums. The police refunded a total of Rs 86.64 lakh to victims, with the largest chunk, Rs 58.47 lakh, recovered from investment fraud cases. Notably, a movie piracy ring was busted, leading to the arrest of five individuals responsible for illegally distributing Telugu films on their release day. This operation, triggered by a complaint from the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, underscores the police's commitment to protecting intellectual property rights.

The cybercrime unit's efforts also led to the arrest of two individuals from Maharashtra in connection with a tragic digital arrest scam. This case highlights the potential human cost of cybercrime, as the victim, a retired hospital employee, allegedly succumbed to a heart attack due to the stress of the scam. The police's swift action in this case and the ongoing investigations demonstrate their dedication to bringing cybercriminals to justice and safeguarding citizens in an increasingly digital world.
