​The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh has seen significant shifts, particularly concerning its alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, has reaffirmed its support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Naidu stated, "I am in NDA. I am going to the NDA meeting." ​

Similarly, the Janasena Party (JSP), under the leadership of Pawan Kalyan, has strengthened its ties with the BJP. In March 2024, the JSP and TDP announced a joint contest in the Andhra Pradesh legislative elections, with the TDP rejoining the NDA. This alliance secured a landslide victory, leading to Pawan Kalyan's appointment as Deputy Chief Minister. ​

These alliances have implications for regional politics, especially concerning the Dravidian movement's efforts to counter BJP's centralizing policies. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been vocal against the Union government's initiatives, such as the three-language policy and proposed parliamentary seat redistribution based on population. Stalin's opposition aims to protect the interests of southern states, which could see diminished representation. ​

In contrast, Andhra Pradesh's political parties have shown support for the BJP's initiatives. Both the TDP and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) have backed the Modi government on key issues, including the Delhi services bill and the no-confidence motion in Parliament. ​

This alignment raises concerns about the weakening of regional resistance to central policies that may not favor southern states. Critics argue that Andhra Pradesh's political support for the BJP could undermine collective efforts to address regional disparities and uphold the principles of federalism championed by the Dravidian movement. ​

The evolving political dynamics in Andhra Pradesh highlight the complex interplay between regional interests and national alliances, underscoring the need for a balanced approach that safeguards the state's autonomy while engaging constructively with the central government.​
