In a significant move towards police reform and citizen empowerment, Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled the state's new Police Complaints Portal, a digital gateway to transparency and accountability. This initiative, launched at the Secretariat in Hyderabad, marks a turning point in the state's law enforcement system, offering citizens a powerful tool to address grievances and ensure justice.
The Telangana State Police Complaints Authority (TGSPCA) and its district counterparts in Hyderabad and Warangal have been established in response to a Supreme Court directive in the Prakash Singh case. Despite initial orders issued by the previous government, these authorities remained dormant until the current administration took decisive action. The Congress government's recent Government Order (GO) 315 has breathed new life into these institutions, appointing key personnel to drive their mission.
The TGSPCA, chaired by Justice (retd) B. Siva Sankara Rao, is tasked with fostering a more transparent and accountable police force. Citizens can now lodge complaints regarding misconduct, custodial violence, and abuse of power, confident that their voices will be heard. The authority will investigate these complaints, ensuring impartial redressal and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity within the police force.
"Our aim is to create a policing framework that is not only effective but also accountable to the people it serves," said a senior official at the launch event, attended by top government and police officials, including Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. This initiative is a significant stride towards a more responsive and citizen-centric police force, fostering trust and cooperation between the community and law enforcement.
