In a remarkable feat, the Cyberabad Central Crime Station (CCS) has successfully retrieved 1061 stolen and lost mobile phones, valued at Rs.3.20 crore, in just 45 days. This operation, part of the 9th phase of recovery efforts, highlights the Cyberabad Police's commitment to safeguarding citizens' property and personal data.
The recovery process was facilitated by the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a nationwide initiative available across all states and union territories. DCP Crimes A. Muthyam Reddy emphasized the portal's importance, urging citizens to utilize it promptly when reporting lost or stolen devices. "The CEIR portal is a powerful tool in our fight against cybercrime," he stated, "It not only prevents misuse but also ensures faster recovery, which is crucial given the sensitive nature of data stored on mobile phones."
The event held at the Cyberabad Police Commissioners Office lawn showcased the success of this operation. Zone-wise, the recovery numbers were impressive, with Madhapur CCS leading with 240 phones, followed by Balanagar CCS (188), Medchal CCS (195), Rajendranagar CCS (233), and Shamshabad CCS (205). The event also featured testimonials from grateful citizens whose phones were recovered. An IT professional from Gachibowli, who had lost his phone at a fruit market, praised the Cyberabad cyber crime police for their swift action, which prevented a potential Rs.2 lakh cyber fraud. Another individual, who had left his phone at a temple, expressed his relief at the Telangana police's quick response in recovering his device.
This operation is a testament to the Cyberabad Police's dedication to serving the community and combating cybercrime. With over 13,423 phones recovered since 2023, including 1,061 through the CEIR portal, the Telangana police lead the nation in mobile phone recovery efforts. As the fight against cybercrime continues, the CEIR portal and public vigilance emerge as powerful allies in safeguarding personal property and sensitive data.
