In a significant operation, the Creedmoor Police Department and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) have dismantled a major drug trafficking network, resulting in 12 arrests and over a hundred felony charges. This bust, which began with community complaints, highlights the power of local law enforcement and their commitment to keeping the streets safe.
The investigation started in June when residents voiced concerns about the area surrounding Creedmoor City Tavern on North Main Street. Undercover operations led officers to a residence just blocks away from the police station, where a substantial stash was uncovered: over half a kilogram of crack cocaine, $7,000 in cash, and three firearms, one of which was reported stolen. The ALE Assistant Director for Operations, Israel Morrow, revealed that much of this illicit trade took place in close proximity to children, with drug sales encroaching upon playgrounds and nurseries.
The operation culminated in the arrest of 12 individuals facing a collective 114 charges, including 105 felonies. Among those charged are Travis Keyshawn Johnson, 23, of Timberlake, wanted on six felony counts, and Marcus Shadell Lockett, 52, of Creedmoor, facing a single felony charge. Creedmoor Police Chief Troy Wheless emphasized the importance of this operation, stating that removing these individuals from the streets is a victory for the community.
This drug bust serves as a testament to the effectiveness of community-oriented policing and inter-agency collaboration. With the arrests and charges, the Creedmoor Police Department and ALE have sent a clear message: illegal activities will not be tolerated, especially when they threaten the safety and well-being of the city's residents, young and old alike.
