In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, Nagpur's Crime Branch has seized a substantial quantity of MD powder, valued at Rs 9 lakh, and arrested two suspects in a well-coordinated operation. The anti-narcotics squad, under the leadership of Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal, has launched "Operation Thunder," a strategic initiative aimed at eradicating the city's drug menace.
The operation's success came during a routine patrol in the Nandanvan area when officers received a crucial tip-off. In the dead of night, between midnight and 2:30 am on October 17, the squad was alerted to two vehicles suspected of transporting illicit substances near Shivankar Nagar slum, Panthela. Acting swiftly, they set up a trap, leading to the seizure of 57 grams of MD powder from a car and a moped. The accused, Raju alias Raviraj Baghel (28) and Shubham Bagde (26), were taken into custody.
Further interrogation revealed a broader network, with Wasim Sheikh from Kamptee identified as the supplier. The operation's haul included the drugs, the vehicles used for transportation, and a mobile phone, all of which will be crucial in the ongoing investigation. The case, registered under the stringent NDPS Act at Nandanvan Police Station, underscores the commitment of Nagpur's law enforcement to combat the drug trade.
As the search for Wasim Sheikh continues, the operation serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing battle against narcotics. Commissioner Singal's initiative highlights the importance of proactive policing and community vigilance in creating a safer, drug-free environment for Nagpur's residents. This bust is a significant step forward in the city's journey towards a healthier and more secure future.
