INCOIS Wins Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025 for Excellence in Disaster Management

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has been honored with the prestigious Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025 in the Institutional Category for its exceptional contributions to disaster management. This award, presented annually on 23rd January, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary, recognizes institutions for their outstanding efforts in disaster management. INCOIS received a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh as part of the award.

Founded in 1999 in Hyderabad, Telangana, INCOIS specializes in ocean-related disaster management, with a particular focus on tsunami early warnings. It operates the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC), which provides vital alerts within 10 minutes to India and 28 countries in the Indian Ocean region. The center's swift response and accurate warnings have saved countless lives during tsunamis.

INCOIS is recognized by UNESCO as a Top Tsunami Service Provider and functions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), as part of the Earth System Science Organization (ESSO). The organization has also developed tools such as the Search and Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT), which helps locate lost individuals or objects at sea, and the SynOPS platform for real-time data integration.

INCOIS is a permanent member of India’s delegation to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, reinforcing its global role in ocean disaster management.
