Exercise INIOCHOS-25

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in Exercise INIOCHOS-25, a biennial multinational air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force in Greece. Running from 31 March to 11 April 2025, the exercise aims to strengthen international cooperation among air forces and enhance their ability to address modern air warfare challenges.

The purpose of INIOCHOS-25 is to provide a platform for participating air forces to improve their skills, exchange tactical knowledge, and strengthen military ties. It prepares the forces for complex air operations in realistic combat scenarios. The exercise is divided into three phases: Phase 1 (March 24-30), which focuses on the deployment of forces; Phase 2 (March 31-April 11), the main execution phase where various air operations will take place; and Phase 3 (April 11-13), the redeployment of forces.

The operations involved in INIOCHOS-25 include offensive and defensive counter-air operations, strategic air operations, air power in land and maritime operations, reconnaissance missions, combat search and rescue, and the protection of high-value airborne assets. The IAF has contributed Su-30 MKI fighter jets, IL-78 refuelling aircraft, and C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft to the exercise. Other participating nations include France with M-2000 aircraft, the USA with F-16, KC-46, and KC-135, Israel with G-550, Italy with Tornado, Poland with F-16, Qatar with F-15, Spain with F-18, and the UAE with M-2000/9. Slovenia, Montenegro, Cyprus, Bahrain, and Slovakia are also taking part, either as observers or with support staff.

The exercise allows participants to plan and execute combined air operations, with a focus on refining tactics for complex scenarios. This training is vital for enhancing combat readiness and operational capabilities. All operations will be conducted from Andravida Air Base, which will serve as the central hub for coordination, promoting effective collaboration among the forces and fostering mutual learning through shared experiences and strategies.

The outcomes of INIOCHOS-25 may lead to future military collaborations, strengthening interoperability among the participating nations. This exercise sets the stage for more joint engagements, contributing to enhanced collective security and cooperation in the future.
