In a surprising move, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy has announced his decision to quit active politics. Taking to social media platform ‘X’ on January 24, 2025, he stated that he would formally resign from the Rajya Sabha on January 25. He clarified that his decision was personal and not influenced by any external pressure or political ambitions.
A Long Political Journey with YSRCP
Vijayasai Reddy has been a close associate of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, standing by him through various challenges, including legal battles. As the party’s national general secretary and Rajya Sabha floor leader, he played a crucial role in YSRCP’s growth. However, in recent years, his influence within the party gradually declined.
In his resignation statement, Vijayasai expressed gratitude to the YSR family for their decades-long support. He acknowledged YS Jagan’s leadership and thanked Bharatamma Garu for guiding him in politics. He also highlighted his role in strengthening relations between the state and central governments, ensuring benefits for Andhra Pradesh.
Gratitude to PM Modi and Amit Shah
Vijayasai extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support over the past nine years. He emphasized that despite political differences, he holds no personal grudges against TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and even shared a friendship with Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan.
TDP Leaders Question His Intentions
While YSRCP leaders described Vijayasai as a committed leader, opposition TDP leaders accused him of wrongdoing during his tenure. TDP MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy questioned whether Vijayasai’s decision was motivated by fear of legal cases, particularly regarding his son-in-law’s company, Aurobindo. Other TDP leaders alleged that he was trying to escape accountability for past political actions.
Focus on Agriculture
Following his exit, Vijayasai Reddy announced that he would now focus on agriculture. However, TDP leaders mocked his statement, alleging that he would invest “black money” into farming.
As political debates continue, Vijayasai’s departure marks a significant shift in Andhra Pradesh politics, raising speculation about the future of YSRCP leadership dynamics.
