Temple Economy Worth Rs 6 Trillion is India's Largest Economic Activity: AP CM Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has highlighted the temple economy, estimating it to be valued at ₹6 lakh crore (₹6 trillion), making it the largest economic activity in the country. Speaking at the International Temples Convention & Expo (ITCX) on Monday, Naidu emphasized that temple-related activities take place 365 days a year, contributing significantly to the economy.

Devotee Contributions and Governance

Naidu pointed out that devotees donate large sums of money for religious and social causes, and it is the government's responsibility to ensure these funds are used in line with their aspirations. Stressing transparency and accountability, he asserted that ethical donation practices and financial governance should be priorities for temple administrations.

Integration of Technology in Temple Governance

The TDP supremo praised ITCX for promoting modern advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), fintech solutions, crowd management, and security measures in temple governance. However, he also stressed that technology can never replace God. "Technology is important, but ultimately, we all have to depend on God," he said.

India’s Economic Growth and Vision 2047

Naidu, aligning his vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047, expressed confidence that India will become the world’s third-largest economy by 2029 and possibly the largest or second-largest by 2047. He also emphasized that Indians will be one of the most influential global communities in the coming decades.

Expansion of Lord Venkateswara Temples

To further promote the spiritual and cultural significance of temples, Naidu announced plans to build a Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in every state capital in India and in every country with a significant Hindu population.

Temple Footfall and State Initiatives

Highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s rich temple heritage, Naidu revealed that the state manages 27,000 temples and witnesses an annual footfall of 21 crore pilgrims, the highest in India. He also reiterated his Public-Private-People Partnership (P4) model, urging the top 10% of society to support the bottom 20% to eradicate poverty and improve the overall standard of living.

Furthermore, Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to developing Amaravati into a world-class greenfield capital city, aligning with his broader economic and governance initiatives.

National Leaders in Attendance

The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, underscoring the national significance of temple governance and economic integration.
