Cyberabad Cracks Down on Drunk Driving: 15 Land in Jail

In a significant move to curb drunk driving, the Cyberabad traffic police launched a special enforcement drive, leading to the arrest of 480 individuals over the weekend. This operation, aimed at ensuring road safety, has shed light on a pressing issue in the region.

The crackdown revealed a startling number of offenders, with a total of 480 cases. Among them, 371 were motorcyclists, a cause for concern given the vulnerability of two-wheeled vehicles. The statistics also showed 19 three-wheeler drivers, 85 four-wheeler riders, and 5 heavy vehicle operators under the influence. These numbers are a stark reminder of the potential dangers on Cyberabad's roads. The offenders' Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels varied, with the majority (423) in the 35-200 mg/100 ml range. However, a significant number of 57 drivers had BAC levels above 200 mg/100 ml, indicating a high level of intoxication.

The Cyberabad police have taken a firm stance, emphasizing the severity of driving under the influence. They have warned that causing a fatal accident while intoxicated could result in charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment. This operation serves as a warning to potential offenders and a step towards creating safer roads. With the court proceedings for the apprehended individuals pending, the police's message is clear: driving under the influence will not be tolerated, and the consequences can be severe.
