Assam Cabinet Approves Mega Industrial Park, Green Energy Policy, and New National Park

In a significant move towards industrial growth and sustainable development, the Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved several key initiatives, including a mega industrial park, a comprehensive green energy policy, and the notification of a new national park. The decisions were announced by the Chief Minister during a press conference following a cabinet meeting held in Guwahati.

One of the major decisions was the allocation of 569 bighas of land (approximately 188 acres) in the Morigaon district for the development of a Mega Industrial Park. This initiative is expected to boost industrialization in the state by attracting investment, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to Assam's economic growth. The park will focus on creating a conducive environment for manufacturing and allied industries.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025, aimed at accelerating the adoption and development of renewable energy projects. The policy will focus on harnessing the potential of solar, wind, mini and small hydro, hydrogen, and other clean energy sources. It sets out a strategic roadmap to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and ensure long-term environmental sustainability. This aligns with India's national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030.

In a move to bolster environmental conservation, the cabinet also approved the notification of Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park, to be established between the existing Raimona and Manas National Parks. Spanning 316.29 square kilometers across Chirang and Kokrajhar districts, this park is expected to enhance the protection of the region’s rich biodiversity and contribute to eco-tourism.

Moreover, the cabinet approved post-graduate increments for Ayurvedic doctors who have completed a three-year PG course, recognizing their advanced qualifications and encouraging further specialization in traditional medicine.

These developments underscore Assam’s commitment to a balanced approach that supports economic development while safeguarding environmental and social well-being. The initiatives are expected to drive sustainable growth, attract investment, and strengthen Assam's position in both industrial and green energy sectors.
