Andhra Pradesh Braces for Severe Weather

Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of extreme weather conditions. With a red alert issued for six districts, the state prepares for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding. The IMD's bulletin paints a vivid picture of the impending weather systems, with two depressions set to impact the region.

The IMD's forecast is dire, predicting more than 204.5 mm of rainfall in isolated places across SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts on October 22, 2025. This red alert is a call to action for local authorities and residents alike. The situation is particularly concerning in low-lying areas, where the risk of flooding is heightened. Municipal officials are already on the ground, inspecting vulnerable neighborhoods like Thotapalem, situated near the Neeva River in Chittoor.

Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, and Bapatla districts, indicating the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The weather systems responsible for this alert are a depression over the southeast Arabian Sea and another forming over the Bay of Bengal. These systems are expected to bring strong winds and lightning to Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Real-time data from the State Government's Directorate of Economics and Statistics reveals that several areas have already experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with Marripadu in SPSR Nellore district recording 80.75 mm and Peddavaduguru in Anantapur district receiving 66 mm.

As Andhra Pradesh braces for the impact, the state's preparedness and resilience will be tested, ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
