Dr. Shariff Outlines Vision for Robust India-Namibia Trade Corridor

Hyderabad – Following her appointment as the Trade Commissioner for Namibia, Africa, Dr. Tasneem Shariff has been aggressively driving trade and economic ties between India and the Southern African nation. Speaking at a recent India-Africa Trade Council summit, she presented a strategic plan to significantly increase bilateral trade, which currently hovers around USD 80 million.

Dr. Shariff detailed opportunities for Indian investment and collaboration in Namibian sectors like diamond and gold processing, pharmaceuticals, contractual farming, and infrastructure development. She emphasized the strategic importance of Namibia's Walvis Bay port as a gateway to the broader Southern African region. Critically, she announced plans for a "Diamond Park project" in India to enable students to learn self-reliant skill sets related to the diamond trade, ensuring the economic relationship is also a partnership in capacity building. Her vision establishes the "trade office bridge" as a two-way street for economic and educational exchange.
