In a significant blow to Hyderabad's illicit drug trade, a joint operation by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) and Tolichowki Police has led to the arrest of two individuals, exposing a well-organized MDMA trafficking network. The operation, conducted on October 19, underscores the growing sophistication of drug peddling operations in the city and the challenges faced by law enforcement.
The first suspect, Mohd. Imran, a 31-year-old driver, had a history of drug addiction, with previous arrests in 2024. However, his rehabilitation did not deter him from re-entering the criminal world, driven by the allure of quick money and a lavish lifestyle. Imran's network extended beyond Hyderabad, as he sourced MDMA and LSD from an interstate supplier in Bengaluru, taking advantage of his personal transportation connections to smuggle drugs into the city.
Shaik Baseer Ahmed, the second accused, a 32-year-old former Dubai-based salesman, played a crucial role as a sub-peddler. His addiction to MDMA, cigarettes, and alcohol, combined with his desire for luxury, led him to join Imran's operation. Ahmed's task was to distribute the drugs locally, collect payments, and ensure the smooth functioning of the supply chain. This efficient partnership allowed them to cater to a wide range of drug consumers in Hyderabad.
The seizure of 11 grams of MDMA, mobile phones, and a two-wheeler, valued at Rs 1.77 lakh, highlights the scale of their operation. Deputy Commissioner of Police YVS Sudheendra's statement emphasizes the collective responsibility in combating drug trafficking, urging citizens to report suspicious activities. As Hyderabad grapples with the rising drug menace, this bust serves as a stark reminder of the complex web of addiction and criminal enterprise that threatens the city's youth and society at large.
