KTR Slams Revanth Reddy Government Over Land Auction, Accuses Congress of Turning Telangana into ‘Emergency State’

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao has launched a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing his government of authoritarian tendencies and neglecting public and environmental concerns. The remarks come amid widespread protests over the auction of 400 acres of disputed land near the University of Hyderabad, a decision that has sparked political outrage and student demonstrations.

In a recent interview, KTR criticized the Congress-led state government for attempting to sell off ecologically sensitive land, labeling the move as both “insensitive” and “illegal.” He emphasized that the land in question holds deep emotional value, having been at the heart of the Telangana movement that cost the lives of around 350 people. “The land is one of the few remaining lung spaces in western Hyderabad. It must be preserved, not sold,” he stated.

He also welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the auction, crediting student protests and civil society efforts for drawing attention to the issue. KTR alleged that the Congress government acted in haste, deploying earth-moving equipment within days of initiating the auction, with the intent to present the land as barren in court.

Responding to the Congress’s justification that the auction was necessary to generate funds, KTR questioned the party’s financial planning. He pointed out that the Congress had made over 400 promises—including six guarantees—during the 2023 Assembly elections, yet now cites a lack of funds for their implementation. “They said they know how to generate wealth. So what happened now? Was the treasury full when BRS left office or not?” he asked.

Criticizing the government’s handling of political dissent and legal norms, KTR accused Revanth Reddy of showing "no regard for the law," citing the Supreme Court's rebuke over the CM’s remarks against conducting bypolls amid an ongoing MLA disqualification case. He said Telangana has gone from a promised “praja prabhutvam” (people’s state) to an “Emergency state.”

KTR vowed that if the BRS returns to power, the auctioned land would be reclaimed and transformed into one of the largest eco parks in the state. “To those participating in the auction, be warned—the land will be taken back,” he declared.

With the land dispute gaining momentum, the BRS is clearly using the issue to reignite public sentiment and reassert its political relevance, while highlighting what it claims is Congress’s betrayal of both the environment and public trust.
