In a significant move towards a greener and more sustainable energy landscape, THINK Gas, a prominent city gas distribution company, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan in Nellore, promising to bring clean and affordable natural gas to the region's residents, industries, and transport sector. This expansion marks a new chapter in Nellore's energy story, offering a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to traditional energy sources.
The company has announced a trial run of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections in Gandhi Nagar, a residential area in Nellore city, with plans to reach 1.25 lakh households within the city limits and an impressive 8.52 lakh across the entire SPSR Nellore district over the next five years. This expansion is not just about numbers; it's about transforming lives and the environment. By providing PNG, which is 10% cheaper and safer than LPG, THINK Gas aims to reduce the financial burden on households and minimize the risk of accidents. The company's commitment to safety is evident in its provision of free safety gadgets to prevent construction machinery from damaging gas pipelines.
THINK Gas is not stopping at household connections. They are also investing in the transport sector, with plans to establish 20 new CNG stations and connect 5,000 more homes to PNG within three years. This year alone, Nellore will see the addition of one LCNG station and three CNG stations, with two existing DBS stations being converted to online CNG stations. The company's current infrastructure in the district includes one LCNG station, 20 live CNG stations, and thousands of domestic and industrial PNG connections. The expansion also focuses on enhancing connectivity, with 90 inch-km of steel and 129 inch-km of MDPE pipelines being laid over the next two years, connecting major areas and highway routes.
This expansion is a significant step towards a sustainable energy ecosystem, as DV Anil Kumar, regional head of THINK Gas, Nellore, emphasized. The company's commitment to cleaner air, lower energy costs, and local economic growth is set to drive positive change in the region, offering a brighter and more sustainable future for Nellore.
