Andhra Pradesh Braces for More Rain as Bay of Bengal Brews Trouble

As the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of a brewing storm in the Bay of Bengal, the state of Andhra Pradesh braces for yet another round of heavy rainfall. With the monsoon's relentless downpour already causing significant disruptions, the forecast of a fresh low-pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal has heightened concerns across the region.

In the last 24 hours, the state has witnessed intense rainfall, with Yanam in Puducherry recording a staggering 11 cm, the highest in the region. Masulipatnam, Seetharamapuram, and Racherla followed closely with 9 cm each, while several other areas experienced heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 9 cm. These torrential rains have not only affected daily life but also caused significant agricultural damage, as maize farmers in Allagadda can attest. Their harvest, spread across a 20-km stretch of road, now lies submerged under rainwater and canal overflow, a distressing sight for the farmers.

The IMD's latest advisory predicts that the low-pressure system will intensify by Saturday, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from October 26. This impending weather event has already started impacting travel, with communication disruptions on the national highway connecting Kurnool and Guntur and vehicle movement affected from Atmakur to Vijayawada and Srisailam. The police, ever vigilant, have advised commuters to avoid the Nallamala forest route due to overflowing streams, ensuring safety remains a priority.

With the forecast indicating a prolonged period of rain until the month's end, Andhra Pradesh gears up for potential challenges, hoping for minimal damage and swift recovery.
