In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, Hyderabad's Task Force police, in collaboration with Bandlaguda police, have seized a massive 908.41 kg of ganja, valued at a staggering Rs 2.7 crore. This operation has led to the arrest of three individuals and the exposure of a well-organized interstate drug racket.
The syndicate's intricate plan involved a carefully orchestrated journey from the dense forests of Malkangiri in Odisha to Maharashtra, with Hyderabad serving as a strategic transit point. The masterminds, including the main transporter, Rahman, and suppliers Jithu and Suresh, met in June 2025, orchestrating a scheme that promised substantial financial rewards. Each trip would earn the transporters Rs 50,000, while the suppliers stood to gain Rs 5 lakh.
The operation's success hinged on deception. On October 16, the accused embarked on a clandestine mission, driving to Palasa Village in Srikakulam District. Here, they loaded their vehicle with HDPE bags filled not just with cashew shells but also with ganja, carefully concealed beneath the innocuous-looking shells. This disguised cargo was then transported to a forest near Malkangiri, where it was loaded onto the vehicle, ready for its journey to Hyderabad. The vehicle was parked in an isolated area in Patel Nagar, Amberpet, for two days, further evading suspicion.
However, the Hyderabad City Police, under the leadership of Commissioner VC Sajjanar, demonstrated their vigilance and commitment to combating drug trafficking. On October 22, near the Palace Function Hall Main Road in Bandlaguda, the transport vehicle was intercepted, leading to the arrests and the significant ganja seizure. With the main transporter and other key players still at large, the police have vowed to continue their pursuit, aiming to dismantle the entire syndicate and send a powerful message to those involved in the illegal drug trade.
