Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announces ‘acche din’ for slum residents

In a significant move aimed at improving the living conditions of slum dwellers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated multiple development projects in the Shalimar Bagh constituency. Emphasizing the government's commitment, she announced a dedicated allocation of ₹700 crore through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) for the welfare of slum residents.

During the inauguration, CM Gupta highlighted plans to renovate and distribute 52,000 flats that have remained unoccupied for over a decade. "These flats, constructed ten years ago, will be refurbished and allocated to slum dwellers, ensuring they have access to proper housing," she stated.

Criticizing previous administrations for neglecting slum communities, Gupta remarked, "Earlier governments only used slum dwellers as a vote bank without providing tangible benefits. Our government is dedicated to delivering essential amenities like water, parks, and toilets to these communities."

The Chief Minister also unveiled a new water supply schedule for Shalimar Bagh residents, ensuring water availability twice daily—from 6 am to 8 am and for half an hour in the evening. This initiative aims to address longstanding water scarcity issues in the area.

In addition to infrastructure development, Gupta underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, particularly in slum areas. She directed law enforcement agencies to take stringent action against individuals involved in such activities to ensure safer communities.

These initiatives reflect the Delhi government's proactive approach to uplifting marginalized communities and enhancing urban living standards. With a clear focus on housing, basic amenities, and safety, CM Rekha Gupta’s administration aims to usher in “acche din” — better days — for Delhi’s slum residents who have long awaited meaningful change.
