Mudra scheme helped in job creation, 52 crore loans disbursed: Modi

Marking a significant milestone, India celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), a flagship initiative launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower micro and small businesses through financial inclusion. On this occasion, PM Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the scheme and highlighted the profound impact it has had on the Indian economy, particularly in terms of job creation, self-employment, and raising living standards for millions.

Addressing a gathering, Prime Minister Modi proudly announced that the Mudra scheme has disbursed over ₹33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans, benefitting a vast section of the country’s underserved population. “The Mudra Yojana has made it possible for countless citizens to fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams without the need for a guarantor,” he said. “This financial support is not just a number—it represents aspirations fulfilled, opportunities created, and lives transformed.”

He emphasized that more than 52 crore loans have been provided under the scheme, a number that reflects the massive outreach and inclusiveness of the programme. Unlike traditional financial systems that often favored the wealthy or large-scale industries, Mudra focused on empowering the underprivileged—street vendors, artisans, small traders, and other grassroots entrepreneurs—many of whom previously lacked access to formal credit.

“The Mudra scheme has helped generate employment at the grassroots level, especially for women and youth,” Modi said. “It shows that for Indians, nothing is impossible. Our people only needed a little support, and now they are shining across sectors.”

The Prime Minister further underlined how the scheme has contributed to the nation's economic growth by increasing the income levels of ordinary citizens, enabling them to improve their lifestyles and invest in the future, especially their children's education.

As the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana enters its second decade, it continues to be a cornerstone of India’s vision for inclusive development, entrepreneurship, and economic self-reliance.
