Congress Holds Landmark AICC Session in Gujarat After Over Six Decades; PM Modi Hosts Dubai Crown Prince

The Indian National Congress is conducting its first All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Gujarat in over 60 years, marking a significant moment for the party. The two-day session, beginning Tuesday in Ahmedabad, is expected to focus on charting a refreshed political strategy amid recent setbacks in state elections. The gathering will include an extended Congress Working Committee meeting at the Sardar Patel Memorial, followed by the AICC meet along the Sabarmati riverbank.

Leaders will deliberate on pressing national issues such as rising inflation, job shortages, economic slowdown, and challenges to constitutional values and social harmony. Key organizational changes are also on the agenda, including greater autonomy for district-level leadership and enhanced accountability. Party insiders suggest that resolutions may be passed either individually or as a comprehensive document, with Randeep Surjewala set to present the initial draft.

This session, held in the symbolic land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, is viewed as Congress’s effort to reassert its historical role in shaping India’s democratic fabric and counter the BJP’s ideological narrative. Yet, internal skepticism remains, with some leaders expressing doubts about the session’s tangible outcomes beyond symbolic gestures.

Meanwhile, on the diplomatic front, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, during his first official visit to India in this role. The two-day visit includes high-level talks with Indian ministers and a business roundtable to enhance the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Dubai remains central to India’s diaspora and trade ties with the UAE, housing a large segment of the Indian community.

In parallel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security environment and review the region’s development initiatives with senior officials.
