In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore (SPSR Nellore) district's wrestling team dominated the School Games Federation (SGF) Under-19 Boys Inter-District Wrestling Championship. The tournament, held at the Ashoka Function Hall in Nunna, Vijayawada, witnessed an impressive performance by the SPSR Nellore team, leaving their mark in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles.
Over three days, the young wrestlers from SPSR Nellore showcased their skills, securing a total of seven medals in the Freestyle category, including four gold and two silver, amassing 26 points. Their dominance continued in the Greco-Roman category, where they clinched three gold and three bronze medals, earning 18 points. This outstanding performance resulted in the team claiming the overall championship titles in both wrestling formats.
The championship's valedictory ceremony was a celebration of the district's success. A Venkata Ratnam, President of the Andhra Pradesh Mandal Educational Officers Association, praised the organisers for their efforts and highlighted the importance of sports in student development. "Sports and games are vital for our students' holistic growth, fostering discipline, motivation, and a healthy lifestyle," he said. Ratnam also encouraged the Andhra Pradesh team wrestlers to aim high at the upcoming Under-19 School Games Nationals in Panipat.
With the conclusion of this prestigious state-level tournament, the focus now shifts to the national stage, where the young wrestlers from Andhra Pradesh will strive to bring glory to their state and continue the legacy of Indian wrestling.
