In a significant move to combat the rising drug trafficking menace in Telangana, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has detained three habitual offenders, sending a strong message to the drug trade. These repeat offenders, with a combined involvement in 19 cases across multiple states, have been brought to justice under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic (PIT) in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1988.
The detainees, Suhas Dada Dayagude, Duggempudi Shiva Shanker Reddy, and Sapavath Venkanna, were arrested between September 24 and October 25. Dayagude, a businessman from Maharashtra, has been linked to six cases, while Reddy, a driver from Bhadradri Kothagudem, has an alarming eight cases against him. Venkanna, a labourer from Mahabubabad, is associated with four drug trafficking incidents. This trio's detention highlights EAGLE's commitment to tackling the drug supply chain, focusing on those who persist in their criminal activities despite previous arrests.
The special unit, EAGLE, formed to address Telangana's growing drug problem, is taking a proactive approach. By invoking the PIT NDPS Act, they ensure these offenders face long-term imprisonment, disrupting their illegal operations. The Additional Director General of Police, CID, Telangana, has issued detention orders, emphasizing the state's zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking. This move comes after detailed reports from the Superintendents of Police of Sangareddy and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts, demonstrating the effectiveness of inter-district cooperation.
With the accused now lodged in Central Prison, EAGLE's actions serve as a stern warning to drug traffickers. The unit's efforts, coupled with the police department's property seizure initiatives, aim to deter criminal activities and protect society, especially vulnerable youth, from the devastating effects of drug abuse and related crimes. This operation marks a significant step in Telangana's ongoing battle against the drug trade, demonstrating the state's resolve to safeguard its citizens.
