In a significant move to tackle repeat drug offenders, the Telangana High Court has upheld the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against the notorious Angoor Bhai, known as Hyderabad's 'Ganja Lady Don'. This decision marks a crucial step in the state's battle against organised drug networks, sending a strong message to those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
The High Court's Division Bench, comprising Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and Justice Gadi Praveen Kumar, dismissed Angoor Bhai's petition challenging her detention. The court's ruling, delivered after thorough deliberation, affirmed that the detention was legally sound and necessary to curb her criminal activities. The Excise Enforcement Special Task Force (STF) played a pivotal role in this case, meticulously documenting Angoor Bhai's extensive history of ganja peddling in Dhoolpet and surrounding areas. Their investigation revealed a pattern of repeat drug offences, leading to the recommendation of invoking the PD Act to ensure public safety.
The State Advisory Board's endorsement of the STF's proposal further solidified the case for preventive detention. Consequently, formal orders were issued by Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty in mid-April. The government's legal team successfully defended the action in court, emphasising the need to disrupt Angoor Bhai's drug trafficking operations for the betterment of public order. The High Court's final verdict upheld the detention orders, a decision celebrated by the Excise department as a victory in their ongoing efforts to eradicate organised drug networks from Hyderabad.
"The ruling reaffirms our commitment to eliminating drug cartels," stated Excise Enforcement Director Shanwaz Qasim, underscoring the significance of this legal victory in the battle against drug-related crimes.
