Punjab Police Uncover International Drug Trafficking Ring

In a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking, Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a cartel, seizing a substantial 5 kilograms of heroin and arresting a key operative, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gora. This operation, led by the Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur, highlights the ongoing battle against the illicit drug trade in the region.

The bust, as described by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, was a result of meticulous intelligence work. The police intercepted Gora, a resident of Habib Wala village in Ferozepur, while he was transporting the heroin on his motorcycle. This seizure is just the tip of the iceberg, as initial investigations suggest the drugs were smuggled from Pakistan, indicating an intricate international network.

Assistant Inspector General Gursewak Singh Brar elaborated on the operation's secrecy and success, emphasizing the importance of acting on reliable intelligence. The arrest of Gora is a crucial breakthrough, as he was allegedly taking orders from a smuggler in Pakistan and was about to deliver the consignment to another local operative. The police are now working to identify this network's other members and their roles.

The recent operation adds to the Punjab Police's string of successes, including the Special Operation Cell's capture of Manpreet Singh, alias Tiddi, a terrorist operative linked to a banned organization in Pakistan. The police's efforts in maintaining law and order and combating cross-border crimes are evident, but the ongoing investigations also underscore the complex nature of these criminal networks and the challenges in eradicating them.
