In a significant move, the Hyderabad City Police has initiated its first drug disposal phase for 2025, eliminating a staggering Rs 4.6 crore worth of narcotics from the streets. This operation, conducted on Thursday, sends a powerful message in the ongoing battle against the illicit drug trade. The disposal process, overseen by the Drug Disposal Committee, was a meticulously planned event, ensuring the destruction of a substantial quantity of drugs seized over the past six years.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Police N Swetha, meticulously oversaw the disposal of various narcotics, including 1,585.9 kg of ganja, 6.47 g of cocaine, and other substances like MDMA, hash oil, LSD, and ecstasy pills. This operation, carried out at GJ Multiclave (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Ranga Reddy district, was a comprehensive effort, covering 128 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across 26 police stations in the city. The total value of the destroyed contraband was estimated at Rs 4,56,43,930, a significant financial blow to the illegal drug economy.

Hyderabad Police's commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability is evident in their approach. DCP Swetha emphasized that the operation adhered to all environmental and legal protocols, ensuring a transparent process. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that includes awareness campaigns in schools and public spaces and coordinated enforcement operations against drug peddlers and suppliers. The police's dedication to keeping the city drug-free is further underscored by their consistent disposal of seized drugs, with over Rs 10 crore worth of narcotics destroyed in 2024 alone.
