Babu Is Back: Amaravati 2.0 Begins to Take Shape!

After years of stagnation and uncertainty, Amaravati is poised for a grand revival under the new NDA-led Andhra Pradesh government. The ambitious capital city project, once the centerpiece of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) vision, is getting a second life—dubbed Amaravati 2.0. With N. Chandrababu Naidu back at the helm, development in the region has resumed with renewed vigor.

The government has officially launched Phase 2 of the Amaravati Capital City Project, which includes a fresh round of land acquisition and infrastructure development. In this phase, the state aims to acquire an additional 3,500 acres of land, 200 acres of which have already been secured. This supplements the nearly 33,000 acres pooled during the TDP’s previous tenure from 2014 to 2019.

Significantly, the state is preparing to float infrastructure tenders worth ₹48,000 crore as part of the Greenfield Amaravati Capital Project. The bidding process is scheduled to commence in November 2025, with construction targeted to begin by January 2026. This marks one of the largest infrastructure pushes in the region’s history.

Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, who was instrumental in Amaravati's original blueprint, is once again at the forefront of planning and execution. The government's recent White Paper pointed to severe setbacks caused by the previous YSRCP government, including escalated costs, disrupted timelines, and damage to Amaravati Bonds' credibility due to poor credit ratings.

This revival is not just about physical infrastructure—it symbolizes a broader political and economic reset. The government aims to restore investor confidence, create jobs, and reestablish Amaravati as a model for sustainable urban development.

With “Babu is Back” becoming a rallying cry among supporters, Amaravati 2.0 represents more than a city—it’s a statement of intent to fulfill an abandoned dream and reimagine Andhra’s capital with renewed purpose and promise.
