In a significant move towards passenger safety, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is implementing a comprehensive set of measures, drawing inspiration from the aviation industry. This decision comes as a response to the tragic bus fire in Kurnool, which claimed the lives of 20 passengers, highlighting the urgent need for improved emergency preparedness.

The new protocol introduces a familiar sight for air travellers: pre-journey safety briefings. Drivers will now play the role of air hostesses, providing essential safety instructions to passengers before each trip. This includes crucial information such as the route details, emergency exits, and the location of safety equipment like fire extinguishers and hammers. The latter, previously limited to air-conditioned buses, will now be standard in Super Luxury buses as well, with plans to expand to other bus categories.

TGSRTC's vice-chairman and managing director, Y Nagi Reddy, emphasized the importance of these changes, stating that all Super Luxury and AC buses will be equipped with fire extinguishers and hammers. The corporation is also revising its emergency response procedures, ensuring that drivers and conductors actively inform passengers about safety features at major boarding points.
